The Business Committee of Parliament is expected to meet before the house reconvenes on Monday to discuss issues concerning Mulanje South West Member of Parliament, George Chaponda, who has been serving as Leader of the House.

Chaponda is according to the Mzuzu High Court order, suspended from his position as Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, to pave the way for investigations on maize purchase from Zambia being conducted by a commission of inquiry President Peter Mutharika set up last month.

Parliament Chief Public Relations Officer, Leonard Mengezi, has said the business committee which comprises different political leaders is awaiting to hear from the Executive Arm of the Government if there will be changes regarding Chaponda being leader of the house.

Mengezi said officials from the executive are expected to appear before the business committee, for Parliament to know the way forward on Chaponda.

“In that meeting officials from the executive will explain what they intend to do as regards business and the leadership of the house,” he said.

Currently, Deputy Leader of the House is Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Kondwani Nankhumwa.

Last week Chaponda failed to show up at a parliamentary inquiry.
