Malawi Hockey National Team Manager, Kundai Mbawala, is optimistic of glory at the President’s Cup scheduled for Tanzania next month.

Mbawala said this Monday after an assessment of the players following weeks of training in Blantyre.

He said despite challenges that almost prevented the trip, all was now set for departure.

Mbawala added that the players were optimistic of bringing good results from the tournament.

“The players are in good shape and are determined to represent Malawi well at the tournament,” Mbawala said.

He, however, said, the final 18-member squad would be released on Wednesday after assessing some players who are recovering from injuries.

Hockey Association of Malawi vice-President, Krishna Achuthan, said he was hopeful that the team will make Malawi proud.

Head Coach, Geoffrey Biya, echoed Achuthan’s sentiments, adding that the players have been displaying hunger to win the cup.

The team will leave on February 15 by road to Arusha, Tanzania for the tournament organised by the African Hockey Federation.

The competition will run from February 22 to 26.
