National Youth Football Association (NYFA) has outlined plans to market promising products from the FMB Youth League to European football academies.
The association’s Chairperson, Chimango Munthali, said they were discussing with a number of agents to link the league to European academies.
“The FMB League has, under our guidance, developed steadily over the years. The impact of the league on the ground cannot be overlooked.
“This is why we have engaged some agents to connect us to different European academies. We want to be sending youngsters to undergo trials,” he said.
Munthali said, through this arrangement, Malawi’s football would benefit significantly from the league..
“It would mean that we will be sending youngsters to foreign academies while they are still raw. In no time we will have good players that will help transform Malawi’s football,” he said.
Munthali said the FMB League had proved to be a reliable structure in the country.
“So far, over 40 players have graduated to TNM Super League teams in the last four years. Most members in Junior Flames (both under-17 and 20) are from this league. Some have also broken into the senior team.
“So, you can see that this league is contributing a lot to football development in the country,” he said.
The league started in 2009 and is played in nine districts with each region providing three zones. District champions meet at regional level to identify teams to participate in national level competitions to determine champions.
