The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has said the domestic transfer window for the 2017 season is now open.
Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, yesterday said the window opened just after winding up the 2016 season on December 31.
Banda urged players to be mature when negotiating transfer deals with their current clubs and potential suitors.
“We have opened it but it seems that our clubs wait for the deadline day to get busy on the market,” he said.
Banda urged clubs and players to follow transfer procedures.
“We had a case of Jafali Chande last season when he wanted to move from Nyasa Big Bullets to Be Forward Wanderers. There were also other transfers that were not done properly. If a club feels that it has no plans to keep a player, then it is good to let him go in good time so that he can join any club of his wish,” he added.
Meanwhile, newly-crowned TNM Super League champions, Kamuzu Barracks (KB), will play a supporters’ select team on January 21.
Banda said the game was part of activities celebrating 10 years of TNM’s sponsorship of the elite league.
TNM Senior Manager Business Services, Limbani Nsapato, yesterday confirmed that supporters will select players and a coach to play against KB.
The selection will be done through SMSs.
“We are yet to communicate with our fans some of the activities that will take place before the prize presentation on January 20,” Nsapato said.
KB won the league title with 61 points.
