Blue Eagles finished the just-ended TNM Super League season in a very familiar fashion—soaring then crash-landing into position four with 54 points.
Eagles General Manager, Gabriel Chirwa, in a post-match interview after signing off the season with a 0-1 loss to Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium, insisted that injuries cost the cops the title.
The police team finished seven points behind surprise winners, Kamuzu Barracks, a team that started the season with three consecutive defeats, only to bounce back.
“If there is a lesson for us from KB’s success then it is that, sometimes it pays to start a season deceptively on a low note and play like you are bound for relegation,” Chirwa said.
“Look at us, we started the season impressively and as a result, we were viewed as title favourites. Every team was determined to defeat us. Overall, I think injuries affected us.”
