St Columba has new executive committee

St Columba CCAP Church of the Blantyre Synod Sunday commissioned its new Session Executive Committee to serve the church for three years from January 1, 2017.

The commissioning of the committee followed elections which were held on November 26, 2016.

Speaking during the service, St Columba Church Moderator, Innocent Chikopa, thanked the outgoing Session Executive Committee for growing the church in the past three years.

Chikopa said he has enjoyed an excellent working relationship with the outgoing committee and hoped for continued support from the new committee.

The Moderator urged the new committee to emulate leadership style of the biblical Nehemiah, saying they must endeavour to bring glory to God at all times.

“Nehemiah had good organisational skills, he believed in teamwork and aimed to bring glory to God in whatever he did. This is a Session Executive Committee of God and you should not aim to bring glory to yourselves but to God,” he said.

The new session clerk, Bayana Chunga, said he was humbled to serve as probably the youngest Session Clerk in the history of the church.

Chunga said his mission was to unify the church as a place of God.

“Unlike other new office bearers who continuously blame their predecessors, I will not do that. I will continue with the good projects which were initiated by the outgoing committee, with minor changes and improvements where necessary,” he said.

During the service, Times Group Managing Director, Leonnard Chikadya, was also commissioned as Chairperson of Finance Committee of the church.
