Silver Strikers will wait a little longer to re-sign forward Chawanangwa Kawonga as his former Mozambican team, Chibuto FC, is yet to release his clearance.
The Bankers want to re-sign the forward in a bid to address a goal- drought that threatens their TNM Super League championship pursuit.
The club’s General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, said it was unlikely that the forward will feature for Silver this season.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed that he should be cleared to start playing for us. But he might not play for us until next season,” Nyirenda said.
Nyirenda was optimistic that the team, which is placed fifth on the log table with 44 points from 25 games, would soon find its rhythm.
“The coaches have our full backing and we know that the problems will be sorted out,” he said.
In six consecutive games, Silver have only scored two goals.
Silver’s Assistant Coach, Lovemore Fazili, said he was equally puzzled by the lack of goals in the final stages of the season.
“It is a worrisome situation for us but we are working very hard to address the problem. We are playing good football and creating chances, but we are failing to score,” he said.
