The police have arrested a suspect in the murder of popular evangelist Shadrach Wame in Salima on October 28, 2016.
According to Malawi Police Service National Spokesperson James Kadadzera, the suspect, 28-year-old Limbani Rabson Maliro, was arrested in Thyolo.
“I can confirm that we have arrested Maliro after intensive and thorough investigations that led us to track him down to Thyolo. He used to work as houseboy for the evangelist. We are still conducting investigations,” said Kadadzera.
He said Maliro, 28, comes from Michongwe Village, Traditional Authority Mkula in Machinga.
“He is assisting us with further investigations and we will not relent until the matter is resolved,” said Kadadzera of the murder that shocked the nation.
Wame, who was a darling of many Malawians who normally fell for his passionate sermons, was found dead in his house on October 28.
Meanwhile, Kadadzera also disclosed that the police recently arrested two principal suspects in another gruesome murder of a CID officer for Chipoka Police station also in Salima.
The officer, Rhoda Ng’oma, was found murdered in her house on August 15.
“We have arrested two suspects in the murder of the top police CID officer; we are still investigating the matter and due to some circumstances, we may not be in a position to immediately disclose the names of the suspect; but we will do so shortly,” said Kadadzera.
