Limbe Leaf has handed over toilet facilities constructed with funds amounting to K8 million to Mwakhundi Primary School in Lilongwe as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme.
The school has 1,339 students against six teachers and faces several resource challenges.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Limbe Leaf Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Febbie Chikungwa, said education is one of the focus areas in the company’s corporate social responsibility agenda.
“We realised that the school lacked hygiene facilities. We, therefore, made an effort to construct the toilets. This is important for the company as we always want to ensure that pupils from around the communities where we operate have good infrastructure for education.
“We believe these toilets will provide the required hygiene standards and encourage girls to attend school,” she said.
Central West Education Division Education Manager, Abraham Sineta, said the donation will alleviate some of the challenges the school is facing.
