It’s not an April fool’s Day joke but rather it’s true. A concert involving some of the country’s talented artists – South African-based guitarist Erik Paliani and Lulu is set to take place in Lilongwe next month.

Paliani, a producer and songwriter, best known for his work with South African singer Zamajobe Sithole and trumpeter Hugh Masekela, wrote the information on his Facebook page.

“So special performance has just been finalised. December 30, BICC. Malawi. With another great young Malawian guitarist Lulu Khwisa and an all star Malawian band…,” Paliani said.

The concert will take place at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on December 30.

Paliani, who has been described by Wambali Mkandawire as a genius in music and that the country has failed to utilise him fully said apart from their repertoire, they will also pay special tribute to Griffin Mhango, George Phiri and Stampie Kamwendo.

Paliani, who credits his tenure with Acacias Band for providing the foundation for his success internationally, could not be drawn to comment much on the concert.

It has been sometime since Paliani, performed in the country.

The guitarist, who in 2010 released his debut album Chitukutuku which earned him critical acclaim, was recently in Mozambique for concerts.

Lulu confirmed of the concert with Paliani saying this was part of big projects he is working on.

“You remember I told you that I was rebranding myself and one of the projects I was working on was with Erik Paliani. He is an exceptional artist, who always motivates me and I am happy we will be performing together,” said the Mbambande star.
