Flames’ players, Gabadihno Mhango and Atusaye Nyondo, stole the show in the South Africa Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Saturday as each scored for their respective clubs.
But it was Mhango who had the last laugh after his second half goal earned Bidvest Wits a 2-1 victory over his former employers, Bloemfontein Celtic, at Dr Molemela Stadium.
It was Mhango’s second league goal of the season in the PSL whereas Nyondo, who joined Celtic as Mhango’s direct replacement before the season, opened his scoring account for Celtic.
According to South Africa media, Thabang Monare opened the scoring when he headed in Elias Pelembe’s inviting free-kick after four minutes, but Nyondo equalised on the half-hour mark.
But Mhango restored the lead to ensure maximum points.
The victory has pushed Wits to position three with 13 points, just a single point behind current joint leaders, Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows whereas Celtic are on position 12 with five points from six games.
Mhango has made a bright start to his career at Wits having won the MTN 8 recently. He has already won three-man-of-the match awards.
However, his compatriot Nyondo has started his career at Celtic on a low after joining from University of Pretoria.
Another Malawian, Robert Ng’ambi also scored as Platinum Stars and Chippa United played out to a 1-1 draw at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday.
