The State Monday brought to court original bank statements which it intends to tender as evidence in a case in which former president Bakili Muluzi is alleged to have misappropriated K1.7 billion.
The State presented the original bank statements after the defence team refused to recognise photocopies of bank statements as evidence in court.
State lawyer, Clement Mwala, presented the original documents and other relevant documents which are part of State evidence.
After the State paraded their first witness Victor Banda, who failed to show the court proper evidence of his investigation in the case, the State opted to bring documents to substantiate their claims.
Part of the documentation are bank statements from National Bank in Zomba where Muluzi is suspected to have made illegal transactions.
Defence Lawyer Tamando Chokhotho said the case is progressing.
“Today the State has updated the documentary evidence that it wishes to rely in the case. So the court has adjourned the case to October 19 to allow the State to complete filing all necessary documents so that all documents are in order,” Chokhotho said.
The defence applied to take the case to the Constitutional Court and the application will be debated on October 19.
