Wizards FC eye former Surestream coach

by

Wizards FC have disclosed plans to hire a former coach from the now defunct Surestream Academy.

Wizards are looking for a Caf B-Licence holder to meet minimum requirements which Football Association of Malawi (Fam) set for Super League head coaches.

Peter Mponda, who holds a Caf C Licence, doubles as Technical Director and coach assisted by his former Big Bullets’ team-mate, MacDonald Yobe.

Wizards and Karonga United were given up to the end of the first round to fulfill the requirements having joined the league late.

Although Wizards did not disclose potential candidates, Patrick Kulemeka, Abel Mkandawire and Heatherwin Nkumbaleza are highly qualified former coaches who worked with Mponda at Surestream.

Mponda, speaking on the sidelines of the unveiling of Premier Bet Malawi’s sponsorship of the team on Wednesday in Blantyre, said they had identified coaches from Surestream to head the coaching panel in line with the Caf requirements.

“It would be easy to work with one of the coaches who were at Surestream Academy because they can easily understand our football philosophy,” he said.

“We held discussions with two of them and we will recommend a name to the executive committee for them to hire a coach. The announcement will be made next week.”

Mponda also hailed Premier Bet Malawi management for supporting the team.

“This season our dream is to finish among the top-eight. Somehow, we were struggling due to lack of incentives and the coming in of Premier Bet will inspire the team,” he said.
