Nyasa Big Bullets’ Extra-ordinary General Meeting (EGM) held in Lilongwe on Sunday dissolved the Sam Chilunga–led administration and elected former treasurer, Noel Lipipa, as interim chairperson.
The decision to dissolve the executive received a majority 37 votes against six votes, paving the way for the elections that saw Hassam Jussab and Austin Kasito elected as first and second vice-chairpersons, respectively.
Kelvin Moyo was retained as the club’s General Secretary with Bizzy Kalozeni as his deputy. The position of treasurer went to Alex Gondwe, whereas Grace Chenda -Mkandawire was elected as the deputy.
The meeting agreed that the six committee members will be co-opted by the interim committee. The elections will be held next year.
Delegates also agreed that the interim committee will set up a sub-committee to look into the issue of the club’s ownership.
Before the elections, one of the players’ representatives at the EGM, James Chilapondwa, claimed that the players were tired with the Chilunga-led leadership.
“There is no respect for players. Some players received signing-on fees because they negotiated before signing. Others are receiving because they are in good terms with the leadership,” read part of the ultimatum issued by Bullets players.
“There is no unity among players because the leadership is favouring some of the players instead of being a parent to all. The players, who are the backbone of our team, are saying choose wisely because they are tired of being used. This sponsorship is for us to enjoy.”
Bullets owe players in excess of K40 million in signing-on fees.
Chilunga left the assembly soon after his speech in which he acknowledged that the team was sailing through troubled waters.
“While the team has done well this season by winning the Presidential Cup, there are several issues affecting the club. Some of the issues are self-created mainly due to ignorance and greed,” Chilunga said.
“I f these issues are not resolved, they will affect the team’s performance, relationship among the sponsor, the Executive and Trustees and ultimately, the brand of the team.”
Bullets’ Board of Trustees’ spokesperson, Jim Kalua, admitted that there were some concerns on the team’s leadership.
The sponsor, Nyasa Manufacturing Company, also attended the meeting in Lilongwe.
