Police in Mzuzu on Thursday recovered property worth K10 million stolen from different townships in the city.
The police have since arrested four men suspected of being behind the theft.
Mzuzu Police Officer -in-Charge, Davie Mulepa, said that the police have managed to recover the property and arrest the suspects after receiving a tip from the general public.
He identified the suspects as Moses Ngwira, aged 32 years, of Chalera Village, Donald Chiwoko, aged 36 years, from Yotamu Village in Traditional Authority Mtwalo, Yotamu Nyasulu, aged 28 years from Yesaya of Traditional Authority Mwabulabo in Mzimba and Francis Chikuse, aged 21 years from Chimutu Village in Lilongwe.
“In the past three months, we received many cases of burglary and robberies from townships like Lubinga, Chibanja, Chibavi, Mchengautuba, Masasa and other areas. We tried to deploy our officers in all the townships but it didn’t work. However, we are glad that some patriotic Malawians tipped us on the suspects which we are currently keeping in our custody. Using our skills we have managed to recover some property worth over K10 million,” said Mulepa.
Some of the recovered properties are two motor bikes, plasma screens, speakers, home theatres, plates, laptops and vehicle batteries.
