Be Forward Wanderers Reserve showed their elder brothers the right way to play and dress despite bowing out after losing 1-0 in a Carlsberg Cup family affair staged at a deserted Kamuzu Stadium on Tuesday.
The seniors barely limped their way to the Carlsberg Cup round-of-16 after an embarrassing win over their reserve side, which got most things right, including wearing the distinct blue kit.
It took 50 minutes for the misfiring seniors to score through
Peter Wadabwa, who rose the highest to nod into the net a long ball from the right flank.
However, Wanderers Reserve got it right in work-ethic against their seniors who wore white and orange.
The Nomads date Kamuzu Barracks in the next stage, but if the Nomads’ casual approach is anything to go by, then coach Eddington Ng’onamo has his work cut out.
The reserve side’s goalkeeper Kevin Hara stood defiantly between the sticks stopping anything which Wadabwa and Jafali Chande threw at him. The first half ended goalless, but not before Tilimbe Jeke scorched the seniors’ goalkeeper Nenani Juwaya’s palms.
In the second half, the Albert Mpinganjira-coached reserve side also came close through Alpha Mungoshi, who fired marginally when meeting a corner-kick at the far post.
Mpinganjira was happy with what he saw, whereas Ng’onamo admitted that it was not an easy family affair.
“There is no question that my players gave their all. We did not give away the goal. They had to fight for it. The seniors had a slight edge of experience,” the former Nomads striker said.
