K1 million trophy launched in Mangochi Nkungulu

by

Member of Parliament for Mangochi Nkungulu, Aisha Mambo, has launched a K1 million netball and football trophy in her constituency.

The trophy will run from this month to November and is called ‘Honourable Aisha Mambo’.

The trophy has registered 10 netball teams and 25 for football.

According to Mambo, the purpose of the trophy—apart from unearthing talent—is to help popularise the recently-passed Marriage, Family and Divorce Act.

“We received financial support from the United Nations’ Women, through Wilsa [Women in Law in Southern Africa], to publicise the Marriage, Family and Divorce Act. So, while we will be raising awareness on the new Act, it will also be an opportunity to unearth talent,” she said.

Wilsa Programme Officer, Clara Lungu, and Chief Chiwalo advised the participating teams and spectators to avoid violence during the matches.

During the official launch at T/A Chimwala’s ground, Mpale Select beat Nkungula Select 3-0.
