Controversial Zambian musician Clifford Dimba commonly known as General Kanene was expected to perform in the country last month courtesy of Skeffa Chimoto and his Real Sounds but he failed.
Some quarters have said General Kanene is controversial and is difficult to convince to make it during shows even when you have paid him his dues.
But legendary musician Lucius Banda, said yesterday that General Kanene is set for the shows organised by Zembani Music Company.
“We can assure Malawians that General Kanene is coming and actually he will come in early before the shows this weekend. A team is already in Zambia and they will be coming in with him,” said Lucius.
He said the shows will help them generate funds for the Jamaican musician Busy Signal show scheduled for Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on August 27.
“We are doing al l this to bring maximum entertainment to people and we also hope the corporate world will come forward and support us. We are also using the General Kanene shows to generate funds for the Busy Signal show. And again we are using the Busy Signal show to generate funds for the Sunbird Sand Music Festival,” said the musician.
This will not be the first time for General Kanene to perform in the country but rather it will be the first since he was jailed before being pardoned.
General Kanene, was convicted in 2014 and sentenced to 18 years in prison, but was pardoned by President Edgar Lungu after serving one year.
According to the adverts, General Kanene will come face to face with Lucius, Wendy Harawa, Sam Simakweli and Lambanie Dube during shows which start on Friday at Ngoms Park in Liwonde and then Wakawaka Hotel in Lilongwe on Saturday with will the last show at Squirrels Park in Mzuzu on Sunday.
“We would have loved to bring General Kanene to Blantyre but we will not. It seems artists are having difficulties to generate funds in Blantyre and something needs to be done. If you notice artists are shunning Blantyre these days opting for other areas,” said Lucius popularly known as Soldier.
Meanwhile Lucius has confirmed that the Busy Signal show is on and that they have finalised everything.
“I can confirm that the Busy Signal return show is on. This is part of fundraising for the festival and again having impressed last year during the festival we thought we should bring him back and give a chance to those who missed his electric performance,” he said.
Lucius has since posted the information of Busy Signal show on his Facebook page. The show will take place at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe with the advance tickets costing K10,000 whilst on the door it will be K12,000.
“At the moment, we are just waiting for a video just for Malawians to know that we are serious and that this show is on but for now let’s concentrate on the General Kanene shows and then we will bring more information on the Busy Signal and then the festival,” he said.
