Foreign clubs invade Big Bullets

Nyasa Big Bullets’ regulars Sankhani Mkandawire and Owen Chaima left yesterday for greener pastures in Tanzania, whereas Muhamad Sulumba and John Lanjesi are in South Africa on a similar adventure.

Bullets Chairperson, Sam Chilunga, on Monday confirmed that the sweeper Mkandawire and goalkeeper Chaima were heading to Kinnah Phiri-coached Mbeya City FC, with right-back Lanjesi and striker Sulumba invited by Polokwane City.

“Lanjesi is injured but Polokwane insisted that their doctors need to assess him alongside Sulumba. Sankhani and Owen will be back for Sunday’s game against Blue Eagles,” Chilunga explained.

“If the players go, we will have cover. There is a provision in their contracts that we will never stand in their way if they receive betters offer from foreign teams.”

Kinnah yesterday confirmed to have invited the players to discuss personal terms, hoping to open loan-transfer negotiations with Bullets.

“Since I know them, my employers here gave me the mandate to sign them, but it all depends if the players agree with management. It was difficult getting a striker from Malawi, so I have invited someone from Burundi,” Kinnah said in a telephone interview from Dodoma where Mbeya are undergoing pre-season training.

It is believed that Mbeya are offering Mkandawire and Chaima hefty perks for the loan spells. It is unclear if Mbeya will pay a loan fee.

Mkandawire yesterday confirmed that he was travelling to Tanzania.

The current international transfer window will close at the end of the month.
