Life seeks more help for cancer patient

Living in Faith Everyday (Life) has disclosed plans to hold a number of fundraising events to aid Mini Me Montessori School teacher, Sandra Rebello, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer two months ago.

Rebello needs K5 million to undergo Radiotherapy treatment in Lusaka, Zambia.

Radiotherapy is currently not available in Malawi but it is only available in India, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

Life held a fundraising dinner and dance at Mini Me Montessori on Saturday.

Life Chairperson Marcela Lobo, who doubles as Mini Me Montessori Director, said the objectives of the fundraising were not met.

“We are still compiling figures and pledges once we are through we will come back to you. We are always transparent. Remember the first activity-fun fair- we raised K500,000 so we will disclose the figures in due course,” she said.

However, Lobo said they were excited to see a good turnout.

“A lot of people have attended even though we expected quite a bigger number. To be honest we did not achieve our goal with this event but this is a step we have undertaken and there will be more events which we will take in order to achieve our goal. We had some requests from Lilongwe and we intend to hold similar events that are side,” she said.

One of the cancer survivors, Chikhulupiriro Ng’ombe, motivated the audience on the need for check up and also supporting one another to overcome cancer.

Rebello was excited with the initiative and she encouraged ladies to undergo medical checkup.

“I don’t take it for granted that women have sacrificed their time to be here to assist me. They had other better things to do but they decided to come and support this cause,” she said.
