A vehicle belonging to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson, Jessie Kabwila, was on Wednesday evening burnt by unknown people at Lilongwe Gold Club where she had parked it. The Toyota Fortuner had a significant part of its bonnet burnt, rendering it beyond repair.
Kabwila said she is aware that the people who torched her vehicle were sent by the regime, claiming that she received information that the police were looking for her in relation to demonstrations by Chancellor College students in Zomba and that government is not happy with her contributions in Parliament, particularly regarding Land Bills.
But governing Democratic Progressive Party spokesperson, Francis Kasaila, said the party has nothing to do with the MCP spokesperson.
Kasaila said if Kabwila was so influential, she would have contributed to DPP’s failure at the 2014 tripartite elections, saying she was always critical of DPP.
