Dwangwa United suspend coach

Six points from 11 games is what Dwangwa United have to show for their return to the TNM Super League, and things are not looking good.

A fall-out between coach McDonald Mtetemela and some of his players has left the team’s management with little choice, but to suspend the coach to pave way for investigations.

Yet Dwangwa General Secretary, Samson Zimba, yesterday opted to be diplomatic when asked about the future of the former MDC United and national team defender.

“There is a misunderstanding between the coach and players, hence we have told the coach to, for now, stop training the team so that we can investigate the matter.”

“Currently, his assistant Bentley Mhango is training the team and once we get to the bottom of the matter, probably by the end of the week, we will state the club’s position. No one has been fired. The coach is still being paid,” Zimba explained.

Reports of problems at Dwangwa have always resurfaced since Mtetemela was hired to replace Ladwell Mbetewa, who masterminded the team’s return to the top-flight league after a decade in the Premier Division.

Mtetemela reserved his comment when contacted Wednesday, saying time is not ripe for him to speak out. It is believed that some players have ganged against the coach.

Dwangwa are third from bottom and their most notable results were a 1-1 draw with Be Forward Wanderers and a 2-1 win over Azam Tigers in Blantyre.
