SAA funds national spelling bee finalists

South African Airlines (SAA) on Monday committed to fund three students who triumphed in the national spelling bee competition. The three will take part in the continental contest to be held in South Africa this Saturday.

The finalists from Malawi will compete with other contestants for the grand prize which includes a fully paid under-graduate scholarship at Monash University in South Africa, worth over $20,000.

The team, comprising of Pasha Kamenya, Vanessa Sherry and Jacqueline Malombe, left the country for South Africa on Tuesday in the company of two officials courtesy of SAA.

According to SAA Sales Executive, Wezi Mungoni, the support is worth K4 million

“We have a responsibility to contribute to community development in the markets we serve, hence we are proud to be sponsoring these young girls to help them attain their dreams,” said Mungoni.

The final will be hosted jointly by the African Union and the South African Ministry of Arts and Culture.
