The United States Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, is expected to visit Malawi today in a four-nation African tour that started from June 23 and will end on July 1.
Deputy Commander for Civil-Military Engagement, United S tates Afr ica Command Ambassador Alexander Laskaris is expected to accompany Thomas-Greenfield in a journey that will see her to Uganda, Zambia and Botswana.
“In Malawi, she will meet with Malawi Defense Forces representatives to discuss military cooperation,” the statement from the US Embassy in Malawi reads.
In each of these countries, Thomas-Green field is meeting government officials and civil society representatives with a focus on the recognition and consolidation of democratic gains in the region.
In Zambia, she will meet a group of Mandela Washington Fellows from President Barrack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative and will visit US-trained Zambian peacekeeping troops who have served in the Central African Republic.
In Botswana, she will launch a U.S. government innovation grant to a youth NGO focused on civic education
