Times Group employees have been urged to be innovative and guard against complacency.
Times Group Managing Director, Leonnard Chikadya, made the call during a one-day editorial workshop held Saturday at Game Haven Lodge in Thyolo.
The development comes a month after two of the group’s subsidiaries, namely Blantyre Newspapers Limited and Times Television scooped the Print Media House of the Year and Electronic [Television] Media House of the Year accolades respectively during Media Institute of Southern Africa – Malawi Chapter’s Gala and Media Awards ceremony on May 7.
Chikadya observed that self-reflection is the key to remaining relevant in a dynamic world.
Among other things, staff members drawn from the country’s three regions drew lessons from presentations made by veteran media trainer and the group’s first Malawian managing editor, Alaudin Osman, veteran broadcaster, Charles Chikapa, and University of Malawi broadcasting lecturer, Jolly Ntaba.
The three presenters— who addressed issues such as perspectives on challenges facing the print media, principles of broadcasting, and experiences drawn from Times Television’s two years of experience— emphasised the point that Times Group media products had potential to scale new limits.
