A 34-year-old man in Ntchisi has been arrested on allegations that he sexually molested his 14-year-old biological daughter at Matalala village in the district.
Ntchisi Police publicist, Gladson M’bumpha, said the suspect who is a security guard at Malomo Health Centre took advantage of the absence of his wife who went to cheer the sick on the night of May 24.
“After committing the offence, the suspect fled and it took time before the victim revealed the incident to her mother when she gathered courage to write a letter informing her mother about the incident; the letter was also read to the suspect’s parents and relatives,” said M’bumpha.
A medical report at Malomo Health Centre, according to M’bumpha, indicated that the victim had indeed been defiled.
The suspect is expected to appear before court to answer charges of incest.
In the same district, 67-year-old Chikwawe Binalisoni of Chimaneni village in the area of Traditional Authority Nthondo has been arrested for attempting to commit suicide.
Police said Binalisoni decided to set his house on fire after he had a quarrel with his wife when he returned from a drinking spree on a night of June 20 2016.
“When we asked him, the suspect said he wanted to commit suicide because his wife has been denying him conjugal rights for about six months and that his drinking was also because of marital issues,” said M’bumpha.
He also said Binalisoni will be taken to court to answer charges of attempted suicide and arson.
