After giving time to his previous album to sell, musician Francis Phiri, better known as Lawi, has revealed that he is working on a new album titled Sunset in the Sky.
Lawi, who has embarked on different projects aimed at developing the country and held various performances with his Mango Band wrote on his Facebook page that it was now “time for something new.”
“Since the release of my first album it has been a roller coaster, I have had too much fun but also had many low moments. I have played music in my country Malawi and performed in many places around the world. So it’s now time for something new,” he said.
The artist added that he has learned a lot and grown his music having rubbed shoulders with lots of international acts and that he is looking forward to the best.
“I have had the chance to play with legends and had the privilege of maturing under their mentorship. I am adventurous, curious and I also love to work and play hard. Somehow along the way I have realised that I am also a perfectionist which I think is great,” he said.
He admitted that he has not been out to perform much in the country as he had to work on many things.
“I am excited about the announcement I am making today and the new friendships I have made lately,” he said.
The musician said he cannot wait to finish his second album Sunset in the Sky and share it to the world.
He said he would not pre-empt much but was quick to say that the album has “so much beautiful music about life, God and many other things.”
Lawi could not say exactly when the album would be released and only indicated that “soon.”
“I have been putting ideas together in the years since the album came out which is now four years. I have been working from home and of course some of the songs in the album feature music legends from across the continent of Africa and these songs are done in a country of their residence,” he said.
Lawi said he has worked with musicians from Mauritania and South Africa among others.
“As I said we will come out soon to tell the media when the album will be out but work is still in progress and it may take a short while to complete but we are optimistic and look forward to completing the album recordings soon,” said the singer and guitarist.
Lawi also said that he is so far in and out of Paris, France for music recordings as well as interaction.
“My manager lives in London and he favours Paris for recordings and we have lots of music friends in Paris. So this is why I am moving between Malawi and Paris,” he said.
Songs such as Amaona Kuchedwa were popular in Lawi’s previous album but there were equally other good songs which include Ndife Mfulu, Dolla Ndilibe, Udzauma and Itanani Onse.
