Traditional rivals Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers clash in a friendly game this Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium to raise funds for the People’s Team goalkeeper Vincent Gona’s surgery.
The Bullets keeper needs K3.6 million to undergo an operation at Beit Cure International Hospital in Blantyre after sustaining a hamstring injury during training last year.
Bullets and Wanderers have confirmed that they are targeting K5 million from the match.
Bullets Technical Director, Billy Tewesa, hailed Wanderers for putting football rivalry aside to play the match.
“We are glad that Wanderers accepted our request. We are promising fans top class football on the pitch,” he said.
The two teams are also using the match to keep their players active as they are on bye in the TNM Super League after contributing more than three players to the Malawi national football team, the Flames who are in Namibia for the Cosafa Cup.
“Apart from raising funds, the match will also give us an opportunity to fine-tune as we have started the league on a poor note,” Wanderers Team Manager, Steve Madeira, said.
The friendly game is pegged at K1,000, K1,500, K2,000 and K2,500 for open stands, MBC, covered and VIP, respectively.
The Blantyre derby in the TNM Super League grossed K22million in gate revenue. However, the two clubs cried foul, saying the proceeds did not reflect the patronage at Kamuzu Stadium.
