The controversy surrounding Jaffalie Chande’s contract with Nyasa Big Bullets took a turn for the worse on Monday when the player was arrested on a charge of forgery and uttering a false document.
Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer, Elizabeth Divala, said the arrest was effected because two suspects insisted that it was Chande who asked them to help him produce the document.
“We had called for all the concerned parties to come to our station so that we hear them out. It was at that time when the two suspects we arrested over the weekend insisted that the contract document that we found in their computer was brought in by Chande,” Divala explained.
She said a caution statement was taken from the player before he was given evidence of arrest and then bailed out.
The public relations officer stated that the issues were getting more complicated than they envisaged and stressed that the best place where the two parties could best explain themselves would be in a court of law.
“We are not in a position to judge them. They will appear in court where they will argue their cases. It is clear someone is not telling the truth,” Divala said.
Chande himself confirmed the arrest and said he did not spend a night at the police station, but was only given bail papers.
Yohane Kachamba and Joseph Kamtondo were picked up by the law enforcers after Bullets Supporters Chairperson, Stone Mwamadi, reported that the two had connived with Chande to produce a contract document indicating that the attacking midfielder’s contract with Bullets expired in February.
On Monday, Chande complained that some unknown callers were giving him death threats and others were visiting his home at awkward hours without clear reasons.
This prompted Be Forward Wanderers to write a complaint to Football Association of Malawi on the matter.
Parties to the contract saga were also due to meet for discussions at Fam offices in Chiwembe, Blantyre yesterday evening.
