A sense of fear has gripped Chiwalo village in Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi following the disappearance and then subsequent killing of a woman who was cleaning kitchen utensils at Nkope beach on Lake Malawi.
In a phone interview, Group Village Headman Chiwalo identified the woman as Alvis Bulahim.
According to Chiwalo, Bulahim met her fate on April 4 2016 at around 5pm.
“We reported the matter to game rangers. Together with the people, they conducted a night long search only to find the head of the woman and a mutilated arm on Tuesday morning.
“Burial of the remains took place immediately but the people here are so worried with this kind of death,” Chiwalo said.
Monkey Bay Police also confirmed the development.
There are, however, suspicions among others that the woman may have been killed by crocodiles which have become a menace in some parts of the district.
A source in the village said that about six years ago a relation of the woman was also killed by a crocodile on the same Nkope beach.
