Blantyre Under-20 football teams will on Sunday elect new office bearers for Blantyre Youth Football Committee.
The elections will take place at Blantyre Youth Centre.
Former Malawi national football team and Bullets midfielder, Chancy Gondwe, Continental Holdings Company Accountant, Sangwani Msofi, and Director of Kabula Lodge, Paul Lawrence, are among the candidates.
The aspirants handed in their nominations to Southern Region Youth football Committee on Monday.
Gondwe is likely to go unopposed as Chairperson of the committee and Msofi is contesting for the position of Treasurer, while Lawrence is vying for the post of Vice- Chairperson.
Msofi on Tuesday said he was contesting to help youth football grow.
“There was a time when I would go around primary schools and see a lot of tournaments going on, but all those things are gone. Yes, we have the Presidential Cup and the FMB League, but it is not enough. I feel that football is generally going down, not because we don’t have facilities but the grassroots is where we are missing it, hence my interest to correct the situation,” Msofi said.
Lawrence promised to work together with other officials to ensure youth football progresses.
“I want teams to be disciplined by making sure that all registration cards and contracts are well-organised,” he said.
