Police have confirmed the death of a form two student at St. Anthony Secondary School who on March 4 2016 went missing at Buleya village, around Makoka area in Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba.
Zomba Police Station Spokesperson Patricia Supliano said in an interview that the body of the 17-year old Derick Dyson was discovered hanging in a tree and was in a decomposed state.
“The body was found in a much decomposed state but his relatives recognised that he was the one and they accorded him the necessary burial ceremony,” said Supliano.
She said the boy’s mother, Malita Evansi, reported to police in Thondwe about the missing of the boy, saying he just left after he was cautioned for a suspected theft of his grandmother’s chicken.
“He was cautioned by her mother to stop such behaviour. But he left for unknown destination only to be found dead,” she said.
