The venue is Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe Saturday; the headliner is Q Malewezi, who is set to present his poetry album People.

It has been a long wait but all is now set as the renowned award winning poet takes to the stage seeking to win the hearts of the people with his People.

Q describes People as all about the human experience, “what makes us and at times not human.”

“I am ready and excited that the launch is finally here,” he said.

The warm-up to the launch was last Sunday at Kwa Haraba Art Gallery and Café in Blantyre when Q performed alongside his special guest from South Africa Vangile Gantsho.

The celebrated spoken word poet, educator cum-music producer and event manager pre-released the album on online platforms ITunes, Amazon, Tidal, Apple Music and Google play among others.

Q also recently released the album’s track list on social media platforms Facebook and Twitter.

Apart from the title track, the other poems in the album are ‘Count,’ ‘Heavenly Bodies,’ ‘Ten Things I want to say to my daughter,’ ‘Fragments,’ and ‘They…’

The album features Faith Mussa and Marlen Chimombo and 29-year-old visual artist Corey – Glass Smith, who illustrated the album’s cover art.

The launch promises thrills as it will also bring other acts including veteran Benedicto Wokoma-atani Malunga, Menes La Plume, Robert Chiwamba, Emmanuel Banda, Sabrina Tambala and Julius Banda.

The poet said during the launch autographed copies of People and other merchandise will also be available for sale at the venue.

Q, a pioneer in spoken word poetry scene, already has two published poetry anthologies to his artistic repertoire namely The Road Taken and Little Discoveries.

Over the past year, the poet has featured on CNN’s African Voices and BBC World and was consequently awarded an Honorary Doctorate for his contribution to the creative arts by Mzuzu University.

A founding member of the Living room Poetry Club in Lilongwe and mentors young poets through his spoken word programme Project- Project, Q has recited his works in several international platforms and they include Poetry Africa and Lake of Stars Festival.

And according to him, tomorrow he is geared to open another chapter in his artistic journey.

Meanwhile Q will tonight also perform at the Mzuzu University (Mzuni) Alumni dinner and dance to be held at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.
