The organisers of the Easter Beach Festival set to be held on March 27 at Chikale Beach in Nkhata Bay have revealed that they have brought in musician Billy Kaunda in place of Mlaka Maliro.
The organisers Smooth Touch Promotions in conjunction with Active X Entertainment earlier announced that Mlaka will be part of the festival alongside Piksy, Maskal, Bucci, Blaze, Moses Makawa, P-Nice, Jamaco and Blackface.
“All is set for the festival but Mlaka will not be available and that is why we have brought in Billy Kaunda,” Godfrey Kachimanga.
He said Billy Kaunda is one of the talented musicians the country has ever produced and that they were happy that he has accepted to perform at the festival.
Kaunda famed for hits such as ‘Mwapindulanji,’ confirmed the development Tuesday.
“I have talked to the organisers and so yes I will perform at the festival and I am prepared,” said the musician.
The musician late last year also spiced up Great Angels Choir shows where he excited the audience.
Smooth Touch Promotions and Active X Entertainment will also be the main organisers of the Likoma Festival scheduled for October 14-16.
Kachimanga said the Easter Beach Party was just adding up to several other celebrations of arts and culture with a strong focus on artists and traditional dances from Malawi and where possible the rest of Africa.
“We want through this event to take Malawians and visitors to different places in Malawi, places they have never been to or heard of. In a nutshell our main goal is to promote tourism and culture,” he said.
Public Relations Officer Emmanuel Mwanyongo said the party will start off with pre-events on March 26 that will feature disco.
“This party is unique and it is giving a chance to people in the Northern region to have fun. Many of the festivals have only targeted the Central and Southern regions.
Again the focus when it comes to the Lake by many organisers has been Salima and Mangochi so we want people to have fun in Nkhata Bay,” said Mwanyongo.
“We would like to thank organisations for their support and all we are saying is that this is a serious event and we started planning it long time ago,” he said.
The event has been powered by Chibuku, Airtel and CBR Nkhukuti Resort.
Meanwhile Nkhotakota will also play host to what is dubbed Nkhotakota Music Festival on March 26.
