Central Zone Basketball (Cezobal) teams utilised home ground advantage when they triumphed in G.Y. Imports and Exports, Dr Print basketball tournament held in Lilongwe over the weekend.
Following the games played over the weekend, it will now be an all-Lilongwe affair in the semifinals.
Cezobal teams will face each in the semi-finals next week after defeating Northern Zone Basketball (Nozobal) and Southern Zone Basketball (Sozobal) teams.
Nozobal representative, Pistons, were taught some basketball lessons when they lost 76 -64 to Brave Hearts, whereas Mikoko from Sozobal also lost to Bunda 70-48.
In another game, Bayonets booked their semi-final ticket after beating Blazers 80-57.
In the semi-finals, Dream Team will play against Bayonets, whereas the other semi-final will involve Bunda Buffaloes and Brave Hearts.
Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) general secretary, Edgar Ng’ong’ola, said the tournament has started on a high.
“Despite being off-season, the teams have played good basketball. We are happy because that is an indication that basketball is moving in the right direction in the country,” Ng’ong’ola said.
A total of seven teams from the three zones in the country, and host club, Brave Hearts from Lilongwe, participated in the competition.
The competition is being sponsored by G.Y Imports and Exports, who deal in stationery, ICT equipment, furniture and other household items, while its sister company Dr. Print, offers printing services, including corporate branding.
