Sunbird Tourism Limited has committed to support Cancer Association of Malawi’s (CAM) advocacy efforts during the World Cancer Commemoration to be held on Saturday February 27 at Thyolo Boma.
Sunbird public relations officer, Akossa Mphepo, said the company has provided funding for 100 T-shirts, banners and other advocacy material to be used on the day.
Sunbird also helped furnish the new Cancer Wing at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and provides meals for outpatients on treatment at the hospital.
“Advocacy and awareness are essential in combating cancer, especially for people within the rural and semi-urban areas,” said Mphepo.
She said the public needs to be aware of the risk factors, changes in their bodies that act as warning signs and where to get screening and testing for suspected cancer illnesses.
“They also need to know that with cancer, early detection is vital in getting cured,” said Mphepo.
CAM chairperson Gladys Mwale hailed Sunbird for the continued support and hoped that more corporate entities would join the fight against cancer.
