Malawi government has not honoured its promise to upgrade infrastructure at Mzimba Secondary School.

Last year, Deputy Minister of Education, Vincent Ghambi, promised to solve the problems facing the school but nothing has been done so far.

During the recent Golden Jubilee celebrations, it was observed that the students were still sleeping on the floor, there was shortage of classroom blocks and teachers’ houses.

The school head teacher, Timothy Kumwenda, said government was yet to fulfill the promise it made during the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

“Currently, we are arranging with Mzuzu Government Secondary School to be using their old beds,” said Kumwenda.

Mzimba Secondary School has 542 students who are accommodated in six hostels of which two are for girls.

Each hostel can accommodate 80 beds and the school has only13 teachers’ houses.
