Be Forward Wanderers former supporters chairperson, Yona Malunga, says he will not pay affiliation fees set by the board of trustees for those wishing to contest during elections set for this Saturday.
Ironically, the trustees agreed to reduce the fees for aspirants for the supporters committee. Chairpersons will pay K25,000, down from K50,000 whereas main executive committee candidates for the top position will now fork out K100,000, down from K200,000. There are also fees attached to other posts.
However, Malunga has challenged the fees as being contrary to the club’s constitution.
He argued that the trustees simply wanted to bar him from contesting for the chairmanship.
“Why should I pay? No! No! Much as the Nomads family is conducting this election in accordance with the constitution, I do not agree with them. I am sure now our trustees have lost the plot because I have never seen in our constitution anything about setting a fee for any election. I am urging all the Nomads fans not to allow this because it is not in our constitution,” Malunga said.
During the trustees meeting, the board agreed to tighten security and not allow any supporter who is vying for any post to enter at Wanderers club doors for free.
Malunga, alongside Mervin Nkunika and Yamikani Kaliyapa, are vying for the supporters committee top posts.
