Former Flames captain Joseph Kamwendo has said he is willing to put in extra effort to impress the new TP Mazembe coach the club would employ following the resignation of Frenchman Patrice Carteron last week.
Carteron left the African champions after refusing to sign a new contract.
Kamwendo, who is currently on loan at another DRC club Don Bosco, said the resignation of the coach came as a surprise to him.
He said he was ready to work hard so that he could earn the confidence of the new coach that would come in so that he could break into the first team.
“As a professional, I am not concerned with what happens behind the scenes and in the boardroom. My goal is to continue working hard so that I should produce good results on the ground. I cannot say that the coming in of a new coach automatically means I will be getting decent game time. I want to work hard to earn my right to play,” he said.
Kamwendo has been enjoying rich vein of form at Don Bosco where he has scored three goals in nine appearances.
“The key to success in football is never to give up. I am looking forward to completing my loan deal in good form so that I can return to Mazembe and fight for a place in the first team,” he said.
The nimble-footed playmaker also said he was ready to make a return to the national team squad if Coach Ernest Mtawali recalls him.
Kamwendo’s last appearance for the Flames was in the 2-1 home loss to Zimbabwe in an Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifier last June.
Mtawali hinted that he was ready to recall experienced players for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea in March.
Meanwhile, Kamwendo’s Mazembe teammate Tanzanian Mbwana Samata is scheduled to leave for France where several top clubs are hunting for his signature.
