Great Angels’ conquers North

Lilongwe-based gospel group Great Angels Choir celebrated the New Year in style launching their Mwasankha Ine DVD at Mzuzu Boma Park.

The launch attracted a massive audience. People starting trekking to the venue early and there was a long queue in the afternoon.

Mzuzu Boma Park turned out to be small for the audience and some people even made suggestions that the group consider hosting their concerts at Mzuzu Stadium.

The suggestion came after the group also moved the launch last month in Blantyre from Robin’s Park to BAT ground.

The launch at Mzuzu Boma came up after the group successfully launched the DVD in Blantyre, Lilongwe, Zomba and Balaka last month where they also pulled huge audiences.

The Northern region show was the climax and Great Angels impressed from the word go dishing out several songs.

There were rains but this could not keep away fans from enjoying the group’s gospel vibes during the launch.

Before Great Angels’ performance, other artists warmed up the stage and they included Limbani Simenti, Donnex Muva, Martha Nthakomwa, Martha Kasambara and Kelvin Sato.

One of the group’s members William Zonda said they were happy with the turnout.

“This was our first show in the year 2016 and so we are happy to celebrate the New Year with fans in Mzuzu. As Great Angels we will continue giving people the best. We are where we are today because of them,” said Zonda.

The group popularly known as ‘The Peoples Choir,’ said people should look out for more goodies from them in the year 2016.

The 10-track Mwasankha Ine DVD was produced by John Nguluwe of Positive Arts and has songs such as ‘Musalolele Mulungu,’ ‘Tadikira,’ ‘Mphamvu Ndilibe,’ ‘Opanda Dipo,’ ‘Kodi Alipo?,’ ‘Samadziwa kanthu,’ ‘Akubwera,’ and ‘Akuyimira Ndani?’

Zonda said it took them close to nine months working on the DVD and that they invested more money compared to their previous DVDs.

The group released the album Mwasankha Ine which was produced by Joseph Tembo in November 2014 before launching it on January 1, 2015.

Their other albums are Mundifungatire (2005), Gwireni Dzanja (2007) and Ndiyende Bwanji released in 2010.

The Great Angels Choir started in the 1980s and so far has 20 members.
