Chimango Kayira extends contract

Malawi national football team midfield maestro, Chimango Kayira has extended his contract with Mozambican club, Costa do Sol by two years, putting to rest speculations that he might join another club.

Kayira recently refused to extend his stay with the Maputo-based club demanding an improved offer estimated at K2.7million monthly salary and K22 million signing-on fee.

However, it is unclear if the club has bowed down to his wage demands.

Costa president, Amosse Chicualacuala, yesterday confirmed that the club had finalised negotiations with the Malawian star.

“Yes, he signed a contract extension and he will be playing for us for another two years,” Chicualacuala said in a telephone interview from Mozambique.

Local football scout, who is also the club’s local representative, Nelito James Pondamale also confirmed that the former Big Bullets and Escom United midfielder renewed the contract soon after the conclusion of the season.

Kayira, who is in the country, was not readily available for a comment.

Kayira featured in most Costa games last season as they finished as runner-up in Mocambola League. The former Bullets player was heavily linked with a move to Mocambola champions, Ferreviario de Maputo and Maxaquene.
