Civo United influential defender, Emanuel Zoya, has issued a stern warning to Be Forward Wanderers ahead of Standard Bank Knock-Out Cup final on Sunday at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
“We are playing as a team and Wanderers should be worried when facing us on Sunday. We have a good bunch of players ready to win the cup for the first time and make history,” Zoya said in an interview during Wednesday training session at Nankhaka Stadium.
Zoya is aware that Nomads are cup-specialists having won all five consecutive cup finals since 2003. However, the former Flames defender said they would dent the Nomads impressive cup record.
“We know that Wanderers are talking too much, but we prefer to let our talent do the talking on the pitch on Sunday,” he said.
However, Wanderers vice-team manager, Steve Madeira, on Monday said the Nomads were not shaken with the prospect of taking on Civo.
Civo will be looking for their first cup success since 2010 when they won the Presidential Cup after beating traditional rivals, Silver Strikers.
The Sunday’s fixture will be Civo’s third appearance in the Standard Bank Cup final, but have lost two previous finals against Moyale Barracks and Azam Tigers.
This year’s Standard Bank Cup is being sponsored to the tune of K46 million. The champions will pocket K10 million. Silver are current holders. They won it last year after beating Tigers 1-0 at the same venue.
